The OHCHR CARICOM Regional Office serves 14 English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean countries, working alongside governments, national institutions, civil society, and communities to strengthen human rights protection and promote dignity, equality, and justice for all.
The Caribbean region shares a rich and complex history, culture, and diversity. Each country presents its own unique human rights context — shaped by distinct social, economic, environmental, and political factors — while also facing common regional challenges including poverty and inequality, discrimination, violence and insecurity, and gaps in access to justice.
Through country-level engagement, the office provides technical assistance, capacity-building, and advocacy support tailored to the specific needs and priorities of each Member State. We work with governments to align national laws and policies with international human rights standards, support civil society organizations in engaging with UN human rights mechanisms, and help ensure that the voices of the most vulnerable and marginalized are heard.
